• When applying ROODLE at temperatures below 50°F the semi-rigid vinyl face will become brittle.
Therefore special care must be employed during installation to keep from tearing the face.

INTENDED FOR: Wide format, screen, eco-solvent, solvent-based, latex, UV-cured inkjet and off-set printing
using UV inks or plastic/oxidizing inks. To achieve the best possible print quality, please make sure that the correct
ICC profiles or printer settings are used. Profiles can be downloaded from www.mactac.com. Printer and heater
settings and ICC profiles can also be downloaded from some O.E.M. or software manufacturer’s websites.

The ICC profiles are provided solely as a customer resource. Print environments, the individual nature of printing
systems, inks and software can significantly affect output. It is the customer’s responsibility to determine the
suitability of any profile for use in their specific print environment.

DURABILITY: The outdoor durability of the unprinted film is 3 years. ROODLE has up to 2 year removability
after application. Overlamination of the inkjet-printed material with Permacolor®
overlaminates delays color fading
that may occur over time. This color fading is mainly dependent upon the inks quality (see technical data sheets
given by the ink manufacturers) and the pressure sensitive media being used.

LIMITATIONS:
Due to the wide variability of interior walls, sealants and paints, no claims for successful applications to or
removal from painted wall surfaces are made by MACtac. It is the users’ responsibility to determine the products
suitability for the intended wall. 1) The user is responsible for determining the product’s suitability, including adhesion and if needed,
removal characteristics when used in applications other than listed specifically in this Performance
Guide.
2) If there are any questions about applications, please contact your MACtac sales representative to
discuss your requirements for recommendations.
3) If this is a printed Performance Guide it is an uncontrolled document. Please check the MACtac
website for the latest, most up-to-date version.

SHELF LIFE: 2 years from Date of Manufacture when stored at 60/77°F (15/25°C) and 50% relative humidity in the original
package.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Always test your ROODLE media with your inks and laminating films prior to commercial use.
1) Printing Conditions: Print in conditioned pressroom at ±73°F (23°C) and 50% RH. The maximum allowable ink
saturation is 270%.
a) Images printed with solvent inks must be thoroughly dried prior to rolling for shipment. Retained solvent will
affect edge adhesion.
2) Transportation Conditions: To allow for easy transportation, IMAGin media can be rolled up, with the image out, with a
minimum diameter of 6 inches (15cm). When the image is not protected by an overlaminate, make sure the print is
completely dry and protected in a plastic bag. During transportation or storage, avoid exposing them to extreme temperature
and humidity changes.
3) Installation Instructions (Reference TA2500 for detailed drywall applications):
a) Before installing, unroll and lay flat. Allow the printed ROODLE to relax at room temperature for at least 90 minutes.
b) Do not allow the adhesive to touch any other areas of the product as this may result in damage to your ROODLE.
c) Do not install your ROODLE onto cold or damp surfaces, or anywhere near heaters, fires or central heating radiators.
d) If the wall has been freshly painted, allow it to fully cure, at least one week prior to installing your ROODLE. Consult
your paint manufacturer for proper cure times.
e) MACtac recommends a test strip be included in the graphic for the end user to test on their walls. For best results
insure the wall has a flat, smooth, even, dry surface. Avoid textured surfaces including textured paints, wallpapers,
stucco, scrub-able paints, etc.
f) Make sure your ROODLE will fit in the area. Measure your wall and your ROODLE.
g) Use a clean alcohol saturated cloth to remove any dust from your wall surface. You may need a damp cloth or cleaners
to remove excessive dirt and dust followed by the alcohol wipe. If so, allow an additional 24 hours to dry as many
surfaces absorb moisture like a sponge!
h) Spread out your ROODLE on a flat surface, face down. Begin peeling back the liner off from the top down about 2 – 5
inches, and fold under. Position the ROODLE on the wall. Once it is in place, lightly tack down the exposed
adhesive. Using a squeegee, smooth down the rest of the exposed adhesive working top down and from the center out.
Remove 6 – 10” additional liner and apply with squeegee. Again working from the top down and from the center out.
i) Continue in this manner until the entire ROODLE has been applied.
j) For wall murals plan the graphic with a 1inch overlap.
k) Finish, by re-squeegeeing all the outer edges and overlapping seams to insure good contact with the wall surface.
4) Removal Instructions:
a. Starting in a corner, carefully pry up the vinyl from the wall.
b. Pull back at a 90° angle to create the least amount of stress on the painted surface underneath the graphic.
c. Continue peeling at a slow speed, keeping the angle 90° and diagonal to the panel
d. For best results, remove slowly.
* Values given are typical and are not necessarily for use in specification.

Retroreflection
Definition
The typical coefficient of retroreflection defined is measured at a -4 entrance angle and a 0.2 observation
angle. It is expressed in candlepower per foot-candle per square foot (candela/lux/square meter) per ASTM
E810.
The entrance angle is formed by a light beam striking the surface at a point and a line that is perpendicular to
the surface at the same point.
An observation angle is formed by the light beam striking the reflective surface and returning to the observer.
From 800 feet (249 meters), a motorist normally views a graphic at a 0.2 angle.

reduced warranties for different exposures, and limitations of liability.
Factors that Affect Graphic Performance Life
The actual performance life of a graphic is affected by:
• the combinations of graphics materials used.
• complete ink drying or curing.
• selection, condition and preparation of the substrate.
• surface texture.
• application methods.
• angle and direction of sun exposure.
• environmental conditions.
• cleaning or maintenance methods.
Graphics Manufacturing
! CAUTION
Before using any equipment, always read the manufacturer’s instructions for safe operation.

3M Graphic Film Controltac ™ ™ 3M Reflective Graphic Film Scotchlite ™ ™
Inkjet Printing
Always read and follow the ink manufacturer’s written instructions on usage.
Total Ink Coverage
• 250% is the maximum recommended total ink coverage for this film for all solvent, latex and UV inks.
Do not exceed the recommended total ink coverage for the ink series used on this product. Having too high a total physical ink amount on the
product results in media characteristic changes, incomplete drying, overlaminate lifting, and/or poor graphic performance. For additional details
about total ink coverage, refer to the 3M Product and Instruction Bulletin for 3M inks or the 3M Performance Guarantee Matrix for OEM inks.
i IMPORTANT NOTE
Be sure to check the consistency of color on reflective film as it may appear different in daytime and nighttime lighting.
Completely Dry Graphics
i IMPORTANT NOTE
Incomplete drying can result in graphic failure including curling, increased shrinkage and adhesion failure, which are not covered under
any 3M Graphic Warranty.
See the ink’s 3M Product and Instruction Bulletin for more details.
Screen Printing
Formulations and processing conditions can affect ink durability. Refer to the Product and Instruction Bulletins for your ink for limitations and
proper usage.
• Solvent ink series 1900 and some colors in the UV ink series 9800 are opaque. Be aware that opaque ink can prevent the film from
retroreflecting in the screen printed areas. Solvent inks series 2900 and the transparent colors from UV ink series 9800 are good choices
when retroreflection is important in the screen printed areas.
• For graphics subjected to fuel vapors or occasional spills, use Solvent ink series 2900 and clear 1920DR.
• Oven dry the last color and the clear when using solvent-based inks on graphics needed for any corrugated application.
Cutting
See 3M Instruction Bulletin 4.1 for Sheeting, Scoring and Film Cutting details.
Graphic Protection
Graphic protection may improve the appearance, performance and durability of the graphic. Click on the graphic protection options listed in the
“Recommended Compatible Products” on page 1 or see the 3M Graphics Market Product Catalog, for more information.
Application Tapes
There are two types of application tapes. See 3M Instruction Bulletin AT-1 to determine what application tape is recommended for your film or
finished graphic.
Premasking Tape
Increases stiffness during application while preventing stretching and damage. Use when little or no liner is exposed. See 3M Instruction Bulletin
4.3 for complete details.
Prespacing Tape
Holds cut and weeded letters or graphics in place during application and after removing the film liner, while preventing stretching and damage.
Use when large amounts of liner are exposed. See 3M Instruction Bulletin 4.3 for complete details.

Application and Installation
i IMPORTANT NOTE
This film is not recommended for use on low surface energy substrates such as some plastics, powder-coated paint, etc. The user must
assume responsibility for testing and approving these substrates.
This film can be applied over other recommended 3M graphic systems. Graphics printed with clear 1920DR must be weathered for at
least one year before applying this film over it. See 3M Instruction Bulletin 5.1 for details.
In addition to other 3M Bulletins specified in this document, the following Bulletins provide details that you may need to successfully apply a
graphic.
• 3M Instruction Bulletin 5.4. Application, Fleet Trucks.
• 3M Instruction Bulletin 5.5. Application, General Procedures for Interior and Exterior Dry Application.
i IMPORTANT NOTE
UV inkjet inks may crack if too much heat is used during graphic application to complex curves and deep contours as well as around
rivets. When using heat during application, make sure the film surface temperature does not exceed 212 F (100 C). For best results,
always do a test application of a printed graphic to determine how much heat can be used without damaging the image.
Pressure-sensitive Adhesive
This film has a pressure-sensitive adhesive. It bonds to the surface even with light pressure and cannot be repositioned.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Use a cleaner designed for high-quality painted surfaces. The cleaner must be wet, non-abrasive, without strong solvents, and have a pH value
between 3 and 11 (neither strongly acidic nor strongly alkaline). See 3M Instruction Bulletin 6.5 for details.
Removal
Removal requires heat and/or chemicals. The ease and rate of removal depends on a number of factors. See 3M Instruction Bulletin 6.5 for
details.
Shelf Life, Storage and Shipping
Shelf Life
The shelf life is never more than 3 years from the date of manufacture on the original box.
If you process the film, the shelf life is changed to 1 year from the processing date, but not later than the 3 year maximum from the manufacturing
date.
Storage Conditions
• 40 to 100 F (4 to 38 C)
• Out of sunlight
• Clean, dry area
• Original container
• Bring the film to room temperature before use
Shipping Finished Graphics
Flat, or rolled printed side out on 6 inch (15 cm) or larger core. This helps prevent the application tape, if used, from popping off.
