Gerber UVGuard 15” Punched Color 10 Yard 50 Yard Clear P84883A P84884A
Not intended for printing. Gerber UVGuard is a 1.2 mil, clear, laminating film designed to further expand the resistance to weathering of graphics printed (or cut) on Gerber Series 220, 225, 280i Plus with Gerber EDGE Systems and GerberColor Foils. Will also provide resistance to the effects of mildew and graffiti. The expected performance life of the graphic will be improved to seven years. (The performance life of GC Spot Pink (GCS-643) will not be affected by Gerber UVGuard.)

Gerber UVGuard™ Overlaminate
DESCRIPTION
Gerber UVGuard is a custom-formulated 1.2-mil clear polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) laminating
film. Gerber UVGuard has been designed for outdoor graphic overlaminating applications. It
further expands the resistance to weathering of graphics printed (or cut) on Gerber Series 220,
225 and 280i, all manufactured by 3M, and QUANTUM II intermediate calendered vinyl, with
the GERBER EDGE®, GERBER EDGE 2®, and GERBER EDGE FX™ thermal transfer printing
systems used in conjunction with GerberColor™ Series Foils. Graphics printed and applied
under normal conditions may not require the additional application of Gerber UVGuard.
INTENDED APPLICATIONS
Graphics that are applied to non-vertical or horizontal surfaces (hoods of cars, roofs, etc.), or
markings installed in areas that experience maximum sunny days will benefit most from the
application of Gerber UVGuard. Graphics with vertical outdoor exposure will benefit from Gerber
UVGuard for up to seven years. In addition, Gerber UVGuard will provide resistance to the
effects of mildew and graffiti. The adhesive system of Gerber UVGuard is petrochemical
resistant; printed or cut graphics that decorate gas pump skirts or similar surfaces can therefore
be protected with Gerber UVGuard.
Graphics that have been laminated with Gerber UVGuard can be applied to flat or slightly
curved surfaces. Gerber UVGuard is not recommended for application to compound surfaces. In
addition, application to corrugated or corrugated with riveted surfaces is not recommended.
Application to flat surfaces with rivets must be done on a test and approval basis only.
For information on further protecting graphics from petrochemical exposure or severe to
moderate handling conditions, refer to Gerber Guard and Abrasion Guard SPF product
Bulletins.
PERFORMANCE LIFE IMPROVEMENTS
The expected exterior performance life of graphics printed with GerberColor Spot*, GerberColor
Process Pro™, or GerberColor Transparent Foils on Gerber Series 220, 225, or 280i
overlaminated with Gerber UVGuard, will be improved up to seven years against UV light,

chemicals, moisture, scratching, dirt, etc. *The performance life of GerberColor Spot Pink (GCS643) will not be affected by Gerber UVGuard.
This performance life improvement statement is based upon laboratory tests, exposure tests,
and field tests believed to be reliable. Actual performance can be affected by substrate
selection, environmental conditions, and maintenance of markings.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
Apply film within one year of receipt. Gerber UVGuard should be stored in a clean area free
from excessive moisture. Maintain temperature at 70 F (21C) and 50% relative humidity (RH).
MAINTENANCE
Clean the face of Gerber UVGuard with a mild, non-abrasive soap with a soft cloth or sponge.
Avoid soaps containing grit or abrasives.
APPLICATION TECHNIQUES
The following application procedure is recommended for applying Gerber UVGuard to
your printed graphic.
1. Print your graphics with Gerber Series 220, 225, or 280i.
2. Take the printed 220 or 225 out of the printer.
3. Using a cold roll laminator (preferred), or by hand (use application tape), apply Gerber
UVGuard over the printed graphic. Use care to ensure that the punch holes of the 220
or 225 are not obstructed by the laminate.
4. Load laminated graphic into the plotter and line up the cut registration mark using the
“bomb sight”.
5. Increase your tool force setting on your plotter before cutting the laminated graphic.
The optimal cut will penetrate through the laminate and base film without cutting
through the liner.
6. Weed graphic as you normally would.
For application of Gerber UVGuard to vinyl graphics that have been cut, follow steps 3
through 6.
The following procedure is recommended when using Gerber UVGuard for a chemical
resistant application.
1. Create job with print and cut.
2. Create decal cut around entire job that is 1/8” wider than the graphic.
3. Output all.
4. Print and cut job, weed (remove decal cut outline) leaving bullseye visible.
5. Exit QuickPlot.
6. Select the decal cut and a non-cut print element in the job.
7. Output selected.
8. Apply the overlaminate over the entire job using a cold roll laminator or by hand (use
application tape).
9. Place the laminated job back in the plotter and line up cut registration.

10. Press F8 (to cut the job). This will cut the Gerber UVGuard with a 1/8” overlap that will
protect the graphic. Weed the rest of the job.
CUTTING
A graphic that has been laminated with Gerber UVGuard can be cut using any 15” Gerber
plotter. GS-15 plotters or similar plotters can be set to full speed. HS-15 and HS-15plus
plotters should be set to 75%.
The user should perform a test cut to determine the ideal tool force setting.
