EDGE Positive
DESCRIPTION
EDGE Positive is a crystal-clear, 7-mil, polyester-based film with a custom-formulated top coat
designed for use with the GERBER EDGE®, GERBER EDGE 2®, and GERBER EDGE FX
thermal transfer printing systems, in conjunction with GerberColor Spot Black (GCS-12) and
Jet Black (GCX-12) Foils.
INTENDED APPLICATIONS
EDGE Positive has been designed to produce screen-ready film positives from computerdesigned, scanned, or imported layouts. EDGE Positive can also be used for photo-polymer
layouts, overhead projected mechanicals, and transparencies for patterns and pounce design.
EXPOSURE TECHNIQUES
When printed with GerberColor Spot Black (GCS-12), EDGE Positive images will have a U.V.
density of greater than 2.0. When printed with GerberColor Jet Black (GCX-12), EDGE Positive
images will have a U.V. density of greater than 3.5. The unprinted U.V. density of EDGE
Positive is less than 0.25.
The necessary exposure time is dependent upon the screen emulsion and light source used.
As a guideline, a 300-second exposure would be sufficient if a 1500-watt mercury halide lamp is
used with a 160-mesh screen and a standard Diazo-based emulsion.
PERFORMANCE LIFE (PRINTED)
Images printed on EDGE Positive have an expected performance life of up to three years when
not subjected to screen exposures. Printed images provide suitable U.V. density for 175
minutes of accumulated exposure to a 1500-watt mercury halide lamp.

PRINTING
EDGE Positive has been designed to work with GerberColor Spot Black and Jet Black Foils
only. EDGE Positive is rolled and shipped with the print-receptive side out.
EDGE Positive is susceptible to static build up and small particles will be attracted to its print
surface. Optimal results is achieved by wiping down the material with distilled water and a lintfree cloth prior to printing. Be certain that the surface is completely dry before printing begins.
Recommended working environment is as follows:
Operating temperature: 50ºF to 95ºF / 10ºC to 35ºC
Recommended temperature for assured printing accuracy: 68ºF to 78ºF / 20ºC to 26ºC
Operating humidity: 20% to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing (maximum range;
actual range varies by material used)
CUTTING
The construction of EDGE Positive is not conducive to cutting with electronic cutting equipment.
If necessary, cutting of EDGE Positive can be achieved manually by using a straight edge and
razor or a pair of scissors.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
EDGE Positive (unprinted) can be stored for one year at a maintained temperature at 75F
(24C) and 50% relative humidity.
Printed screen positives should be stored flat with a paper interleaf between layers. Printed and
unprinted EDGE Positive should be stored out of direct sunlight. Store EDGE Positive away
from screen cleaners, degreasers, and alcohol-based solvents. These compounds will damage
printed images and unprinted film.
MAINTENANCE
To clean printed or unprinted EDGE Positive, use distilled water and a soft cloth. Avoid using
alcohol-based cleansers.
