Gerber UVGuard 9 is a glossy 2 mil, clear, PVC laminating film with a graphic protection system top coat designed to further expand the resistance to weathering of graphics printed (or cut) on Gerber Series 220, 225, 280i Plus films with Gerber EDGE Systems and GerberColor Foils. Gerber UVGuard 9 has the highest protection from UV fade. The expected performance life will be improved to nine years.

DESCRIPTION
Gerber UVGuard 9 is a glossy, 1-mil, clear, polyvinylfluoride laminating film designed to further
expand the resistance to weathering of graphics printed (or cut) on Gerber Series 220, 225 or
280i, all manufactured by 3M. These films can all be used with the GERBER EDGE®, GERBER
EDGE 2®, and GERBER EDGE FX thermal transfer printing systems, in conjunction with
GerberColor™ Foils.
Gerber UVGuard 9 has the highest protection from UV fade.
INTENDED APPLICATIONS
Graphics that are applied to non-vertical or horizontal flat surfaces or markings installed in areas
that experience maximum sunny days will benefit most from the application of Gerber UVGuard
9. Graphics that have been laminated with Gerber UVGuard 9 can be applied to flat surfaces.
Gerber UVGuard 9 is not recommended for application to compound surfaces.
In addition, application to corrugated or corrugated with riveted surfaces is not recommended.
Application to flat surfaces with rivets must be done on a test and approval basis only.

PERFORMANCE LIFE IMPROVEMENT
The expected performance life of graphics printed with GerberColor Spot*, GerberColor Process
Pro™ CMYK, or GerberColor Transparent Foils on HP Series 220, 225, or 280i (all
manufactured by 3M), overlaminated with Gerber UVGuard 9, will be improved to up to nine
years. This performance life improvement applies to printed graphics exposed at any angle.
*The performance life of GerberColor Spot Pink (GCS-643) will not be affected by Gerber UVGuard 9.
This performance life improvement statement is based upon laboratory tests, exposure tests, and field tests believed to be reliable.
Actual performance can be affected by substrate environmental conditions, and maintenance of markings.

SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
Apply film within one year of receipt. Gerber UVGuard 9 should be stored in a clean area free
from excessive moisture and sunlight. Storage temperature is 40 to 100F (4 to 38C).
MAINTENANCE
Clean the face of Gerber UVGuard 9 with a mild, non-abrasive soap with a soft cloth or sponge.
The cleaner must have a pH value between 3.0 and 11.0. Avoid soaps containing grit,
abrasives, strong solvents or alcohol.
APPLICATION TECHNIQUES
Note: Use the minimum amount of pressure needed and unwind tension to obtain good results.
This helps reduce the chance of the overlaminate tunneling as it is applied.
The following application procedure is recommended for applying Gerber UVGuard 9 to
your printed graphic:
1. Print your graphics with Gerber Series 220 or 225.
2. Take the printed 220 or 225 out of the printer.
3. Using a cold roll laminator (preferred), or by hand (use application tape), apply Gerber
UVGuard 9 over the printed graphic. Use care to ensure that the punch holes of the 220
or 225 are not obstructed by the laminate.
4. Load laminated graphic into the plotter and line up the cut registration mark using the
“bomb sight”.
5. Increase your tool force setting on your plotter before cutting the laminated graphic. The
optimal cut will penetrate through the laminate and base film without cutting through the
liner.
6. Weed graphic as you normally would.
