Mactac wallCHALKER
Product
Product Description
CB1088R is a unique intermediate film designed specifically for chalkboard applications. The face
is a textured matte black, 4.7 mil, and cadmium free semi-rigid vinyl. It is coated with a unique
moderately aggressive removable acrylic adhesive, which can be applied at temperatures down to
32° F and yet, is cleanly removable from most common surfaces for up to 2 years. The liner is an
83# white kraft offering stability and layflat. CB1088R has excellent dimensional stability.
CB1088R can be plotter cut, however due to it being thicker and tougher than most vinyl films,
extra pressure and sharp blades will be necessary.

Durability
Indoors for up to 5 years or more and outdoors for 4 years. This use-life estimate is based upon
accelerated age studies. Please note that exposure to severe temperatures, ultra-violet light and also
tropical, sub-tropical or desert regions will cause more rapid deterioration. This also applies to polluted
areas, high altitude and south facing exposure.
Shelf Life
Two years when stored at 75°F (24°C) and 50% relative humidity or less.
Approved Printing Processes:
Screen Printing: HP Indigo
UV Cured Off-set
Solvent Off-set UV
Digital: UV Inkjet Thermal Transfer
Eco-solvent Flexographic

Limitations
Due to the wide variability of interior walls, sealants and paints, no claims for successful applications to
or removal from painted wall surfaces are made by Mactac. It is the users responsibility to determine
the products suitability for the intended wall.
1) The user is responsible for determining the products suitability, including adhesion and if needed,
removal characteristics when used in applications other than listed specifically in this Performance
Guide.
2) If there are any questions about applications, please contact your Mactac sales representative to
discuss your requirements for recommendations.
3) If this is a printed Performance Guide it is an uncontrolled document. Please check the Mactac
website for the latest, most up-to-date version.
Chalkboard Tips
This product behaves like a chalkboard. For best results use the following recommendations:
Like chalkboards of old, prime your WallCHALKER
prior to use. Simply cover the writing area
with 100% regular chalk, let sit a few minutes and then erase. You are now ready for an easy to
write on and easy to erase surface for a very long time!
Once primed, you can use standard chalk or liquid chalk markers to create your designs.
If using regular chalk, use an eraser even a MACtac felt squeegee will do.
If using liquid chalk simply wipe clean with a damp cloth or spray with water, let sit for 30 seconds
and then using a damp cloth wipe clean.
Do not use strong indoor wall cleaners like Fantastic®
, Windex®
, Clorox®
wipes, or anything
containing mild to strong solvents, ammonia or an abrasive.
Application Tips
Drywall is an extremely porous surface and sealing it up is difficult yet critical for graphic applications.
Some drywall or painted surfaces can result in poor adhesion for a variety of reasons. Including:
Highly textured surfaces
High humidity areas or moisture behind the drywall.
New drywall (anything less than one year old is considered new) does a lot of moving as the
new building settles. And new drywall will shrink due to its relatively high moisture content,
finally, new drywall will outgas as it dries out. All of these things may result in failure like edge
lifting, or bubbles and blisters forming under the graphic.
Drywall must be finished to level 4 or 5 for pressure sensitive wall graphics to be successful.
Butt adjacent panels together. Do not overlap. This film is too thick and too textured to insure
good adhesion with overlapping WallChalker film panels.
Different paints require different cure times. Heavily pigmented paints take significantly longer
time to cure. Environmental conditions can speed up or retard cure times. Graphics applied to
un-cured paint may fail. Consult with your paint manufacturer for the proper primer and paint
to use and their respective cure time.
For these reasons, there is no guarantee for Pressure Sensitive graphics in drywall
applications.
